Last years batting average champion went to Caitlin Lowe who batted .440. While some thought that average was amazing and untouchable, this years leaders are hovering near that mark. Megan Wiggins from the Chicago Bandits finds herself at the top of this category as she leads the league with a .435 average along with 30 base hits. She is followed by USSSA Pride's, Natasha Watley's who is currently at .415 with 27 hits. These two are both extremely talented and if they stay consistent it will be a great finish to see who claims the batting title this year.
The homerun leaders are tied at 5 a piece for the Chicago Bandit's Megan Wiggins and the Akron Racer's Brigette Del Ponte. The 2012 Home Run Champion was Wiggins with 12. With 6 weeks remaining before the Championship series, both these players will have to average one home run or more per series to break the 2012 mark.
This seasons RBI leader is GiOnna DiSalvatore, from the USSSA Pride. DiSalvatore was signed as a free agent in the off season and has answered the bell early in the season with runners on base. She leads the league with 23 RBI's. Last years league leader was Kristyn Sandberg from USSSA with 33. If USSSA's top of the order can continue to set the table, it's a good bet that DiSalvatore can break last years number.
Just when it seems like the numbers for two of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game can't get any better, they have. Monica Abbott from the Chicago Bandits currently holds the lowest ERA at .45 (Yes you read that correctly). Last years lowest ERA went to Cat Osterman at .72.
The 2012 Strikeout leader was Monica Abbott with 190. Abbott currently has 103 strike outs in the 2013 season. Osterman has already surpassed her total strike out total from last season (131) with her league leading 132 K's. All this... with another half season left to play.
